Smita Shah Is Proud To Celebrate The Work Of Gandhi

Since his death, many leaders across the globe have turned to the same kind of nonviolent methods he used so well in India more than fifty years ago. His words inspire people from all walks of life. One group of people who have found his life particularly inspiring are Indian-Americans. Many Indian-Americans like Smita Shah take great pride in being part of a community that inspired Gandhi to demand a better world. A Day to Remember

 

With that goal in mind, Smita Shah is proud to be part of an effort in Chicago. This city on the banks of the Great Lakes has long been home to a vibrant community of diverse peoples. In the last few decades, many people from India have found a home right here. They understandably wish to remember their roots. Smita Shah is proud to be part of such work. Her work has paid off with official recognition. October 2nd is Gandhi’s birthday. It’s a fitting day to remind people of his life and how it made the world so much better. In Chicago, Shah has been instrumental in asking others to set aside this day for a special purpose. 

 

Mahatma Gandhi Day

 

Chicago officials have announced that October 2nd is to be known as Mahatma Gandhi Day. Like so many others in her community, Shah has worked hard to ensure that elected officials are aware of the need for ongoing efforts at education about this topic. She has been joined in her work by many respected officials including the mayor of Chicago. Senator Dick Durbin was present along with Shah to pay homage to his life’s work. Shah is the chairperson of the Chicago Sister Cities International Delhi Committee. In this capacity, she’s taken a strong lead in helping her fellow Indian-Americans honor a truly global leader. It’s a role that she finds fits her own life and impressive career very well.

Her own life has been about embracing change and brand new ideas. Shah is someone who found her own calling early on in her life. She realized the fields of math and science could offer her the chance to use her own talents really well. With this mind, she earned impressive degrees from some of the best colleges and universities in the world. She’s taken her education and run with it. Those who know the field find her work deeply inspirational. She is the founder and CEO of her own company. Her leadership skills are clearly at the center of all she does in her life and her work. These are just some of the reasons why she continues to honor Gandhi’s life.
