The Life of Kevin Plank

Everyone knows about under armour and the large empire they have put in place over the years but most of them don’t know about the man behind the company: Kevin Plank. So just how did he go on to create this business? Well, it all started back in the early 70’s when he was born in Kensington, MD. His mom was the town mayor while his dad worked in the land development business. From a young age, he had a fascination with football and played it throughout the years. It did, however, cause him to flunk out of his high school and he was forced to transfer to st. john’s to get his high school diploma.

When he finished high school, he enrolled at a military academy where he continued his football career and tried to get noticed by one of the division I schools. Due to his inability to accomplish it, he ended up at UM and graduated in the spring of 1996. When he closed the door on his academic career, he was then forced to find a job so he tried to become an entrepreneur. He realized the football jerseys he had played in were not the best material so he set out to find one that’s better. After finding it, Kevin Plank turned it into a shirt and began selling them out of his grandma’s house and car. To know more about him click here.

So he invested all the money he had made in a venture that would either break or improve his business. Sure enough, this led to Kevin Plank doing quite well and before long the business had become worth more than $2 billion. They now have offices all over the world and have become one of the most well known sportswear companies of all time. Kevin Plank is the founder and CEO and now lives in Lutherville, MD with his wife and kids. He will step down in a few years.
