Thanks to his business and leadership prowess, this company grew from a start-up in his grandma’s basement to a globally renowned brand. During the 2016 University of Maryland graduation where he was invited as a speaker, Kevin went on to share his secrets to succeeding in life with the graduates.

Success Starts With Passion

According to Kevin Plank, success in any field starts with passion. He pointed out that both graduates who pursue employment and those who take up entrepreneurship should be passionate about what they do to succeed. This iconic entrepreneur revealed that when he was setting up his company, he faced numerous challenges that he only managed to overcome due to his passion for his business.

He added that when faced with difficult situations in their journey to success, it’s passion that will set apart those who fail and the ones that succeed. Kevin said that passion could be defined as not giving up on your goals.

Have Reliable Networks

In any undertaking, you need to have individuals that you can rely on to move forward. Kevin Plank pointed out that most budding professionals and business leaders assume networks are supposed to get you out of difficult situations. This is not accurate as networks are meant to help you make progress.

This sporting apparel entrepreneur said that when he was starting his business, his networks helped him secure his first clients. They also supported his business through marketing by word of mouth. His networks were his former college football team members who had progressed to play professionally.

Get Going With What You Have

Kevin Plank of Under Armour mentioned that from his observation, most young professionals and entrepreneurs want to have everything before they start. This is a perfect situation that rarely exists in real life. He urged the graduates to begin chasing their goals with whatever they have.
