Missing Amy Winehouse? Ecstatic for Adele and Lily Allen’s baby bliss, but just a teensy bit bummed that happiness perhaps won’t translate into more power anthems like “Rumour Has It” or “Fuck You”? Enter Paloma Faith.
Now I might be totally behind the times; maybe everyone already knows all about her and I’ve just missed the boat. But I imagine if I had heard her unique, soulful voice before, I would have gone to great lengths to discover who it was singing. As it is, her songs have been on repeat in my house for the past few days, and I can’t believe I’ve been missing her for so long!
And just look at her! She embodies old Hollywood glamour with a modern twist; I’m so enamored with how she manages to be both stunning and quirky at the same time.
And the way she dresses is really quite fabulous. Before she became a singer, she worked as a magician’s assistant, a singer in a burlesque cabaret, and a ghost train ghost, and her sense of style expresses all those experiences and more.
She says it best:
“I don’t believe in mistakes. I think people take fashion too seriously. So what if you look a bit silly one day? At least you had the guts to do it. I think people should lighten up about fashion – after all, it’s supposed to be fun!” – The Independent.
I also loved this (2009! oh my, I am behind!) article from the London Evening Standard outlining the “lives and loves” of Paloma.
It rarely happens when I discover a band or singer all on my own and fall so hard for it, but Paloma is the real deal.

nicki minaj’s music isn’t really my thing, but I really love her attitude and everything she’s saying in this video.
Erin from Incisive.nu reads this MLK sermon every few weeks “as a part of [her] struggle with [her] own deep-rooted anger.” I know I was particularly moved by that sentiment, despite having read the sermon before; I think we could all use the same reminder every once in a while.
two new blogs:
Wolf and Wood: this girl is seriously cute. I paged through the archives, and there wasn’t one outfit I didn’t totally love.
Design is Mine: a little bit all over the place (how I like it!), and I love the inspiration photos. her links posts are always full of gems.
